The Bothy is a semi-detached holiday cottage in the village of Old Costessey, Norwich. The Bothy offers open plan accommodation for two in Norfolk, ideal for couples who want to have a hideaway, with attention to details to ensure they have a wonderful stay.
The Bothy is at the end of the owner’s house as it was once the under-gardener accommodation. The main house was the head gardener home and in between was the stoke house and apple loft which is now part of the owner’s house. The building was once part of the estate of Costessey Hall, which was sold off in 1919, and the main house was demolished in 1925. All that is left is the belfry block which is by the 18th fairway of Costessey Park golf course.
When you pull up to the car park you’ll walk into the cottage, which is open planned with a well equipped kitchen with an electric oven, electric hob, fridge and dishwasher. With a good selection of cooking tools you can create a meal together, and go to the dining area to enjoy your meal.
In the lounge area have a drink and sit on the comfortable sofa to watching the smart tv or use the Wi-Fi. Above the original ornate bread oven you will find a selection of books to read or just snuggle up with your loved one. Feel free to try out the sound bar as there are no neighbours to complain.
The back door leads to the private courtyard garden where you can sit and enjoy the birdsong and relax.
Climbing the spiral stairs leads to an enchanted bedroom, with a wrought iron double bed complete with luxury bedlinen. The room is very light, as the three large windows give a very sunny aspect and great views. One window looks out to the Tud valley, one to your private courtyard garden and the last one the field which was the old walled garden. The room is full of character with a beamed ceiling and the original wooden floor. The newly designed en-suite shower room adds has a modern fresh style, with luxury cotton towels and essentials are provided, and fresh towels can be offered on a daily base if requested.

Within walking distance the village centre has two pubs, snooker hall, Post Office, hair dresser and beauty salon, and a convenience store. The Harte has a restaurant where you can enjoy a meal or walk up to the golf club at the old Costessey Hall. The Bush has a lovely beer garden where you can sit along the river bank and watch the swans.
If you want a walk Snakeshill woods entrance is just a few steps away and Taverham mill is just down the road. Marriott way which is a long –distance footpath, cycle path and bridleway between Norwich and Aylsham.
Norwich is a vibrant city which is a fusion of the modern and historic with a centre easy to walk around and has a river at its heart and is one of the most complete medieval city in the UK. There is a lively arts, music and cultural scene. Norwich hosts superb independent and high street shopping with two shopping malls, two cathedrals, theatre, museums, great restaurants, bars and nightlife, All of which is only 5 miles away from the Bothy, and there is a regular bus service to and from the city centre from the village.
The heart of the Norfolk Broads which is Wroxham & Hoveton is only a 30 minute drive away, with many types of boats available for hire. The Bure Valley stream railway and Wroxham Barns craft centre is nearby. It’s easy to get to the coast from Costessey, Cromer is only 25 miles away, plus the whole of the Norfolk coast line to explore from Hunstanton to Great Yarmouth. Norfolk has the largest mammoth skeleton ever found, birthplace of our greatest naval hero, and the largest seal colony in England.
